A switching railroad operating on the Full Bucket Line that handles most yard operations and locals in the area using power inherited from its predecessor, the Full Bucket Line, which MSVR reorganized into its current incarnation upon taking over operations in 2012. The railroad is also the official owner of our Desert Rose Budd cars, and provides storage, maintenance, and logistical support for the Full Bucket Rail Historical Society in addition to acting as their official liaison to MSVR. The company is 100% owned by us, however, as with Westlink, it operates independently, with a separate Board of Directors and corporate heirarchy.
Shasta Northern Railway
Based in northern California and southern Oregon, the SNO's primary commodity is lumber products, but there are many different industries that are served by its eclectic locomotive fleet. Shasta Northern is also a tourist railroad, and as such, operates some vintage rail cars from various railroads and manufacturers. SNO began operations in 2015 using a handful of ex-MSVR and ex-PGWR locomotives, including EMD GP30s and Alco C425s. The roster has become a bit more inclusive over the last couple years, with the additions of some SD40s, SW14s, and a few others.
The new operator of MSVR's commuter and limited-express services, Westlink was founded with the goal of keeping the services as tailored towards customers as possible, a task becoming increasingly difficult with the growing size of MSVR's passenger network. In order to ensure a smooth transition, schedules, ticketing, equipment, and infrastructure formerly used for MSVR commuter operations was transferred to Westlink, and Westlink trains will still use MSVR crews. The agency is 100% owned by MSVR, however it functions as an independent entity.
ZonaRail is a subsidiary of Westlink, and a partnership with the Arizona DOT to provide commuter rail service between Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. It operates utilizing ex-WESX, nee-MSVR Bombardier bi-level cars and ex-MSVR MP40PH-3Cs.
